Most local movers in Los Angeles charge by the hour, so the honest answer to "what will it cost" is a rate multiplied by a realistic time range. Here are our real numbers and the things that make a move faster or slower.
Our rates
- $139/hour for two movers and a truck
- $169/hour for three movers and a truck
- 3-hour minimum on every local move
Typical ranges by home size
These assume reasonable access at both ends and furniture that's ready to go:
- Studio: 3 hours with two movers, about $417
- One bedroom: 3–5 hours with two movers, about $417–$695
- Two bedrooms: 5–7 hours with three movers, about $845–$1,183
- Three bedrooms: 6–9 hours with three movers, about $1,014–$1,521
What changes the total
Access. Stairs, long walks from the truck and elevator waits add the most time. A third-floor walk-up in Reseda takes longer than a ground-floor unit with the same furniture.
Hillside driveways. Steep streets south of Ventura Boulevard sometimes need a smaller truck or a shuttle. That adds time, so it should be in your estimate from the start.
Packing. Boxes that are packed, taped and labeled before the crew arrives save hours. Half-packed kitchens are the most common reason moves run long.
Traffic. A move from Woodland Hills to Santa Monica can take very different amounts of time at 9am and 4pm. We plan start times to avoid the worst of the 101 and 405.
How to compare quotes
A low hourly rate doesn't mean a low total. Ask every company for a written time range, ask what's included, and ask whether stairs, fuel or long carries cost extra. If one quote is far below the others, it usually leaves something out.
