The Valley's newer apartment buildings, especially in Warner Center and around the NoHo Metro station, have rules that older buildings don't. Sorting them out a week early keeps move day smooth.
Ask your building these questions
- Do movers need a certificate of insurance (COI)? Most managed buildings require one. Ask for the exact wording, including which names need to be listed.
- Do I need to reserve the freight elevator? Ask for the time window and whether it's a hard stop.
- Where does the truck load? Some buildings have a loading dock with a height limit; others want trucks on the street.
- Are there move-in hours or days? Many buildings don't allow moves on Sundays or after a certain time.
- Is there a move-in fee or deposit? Some buildings charge one, and it's separate from the movers.
Send it to your movers
Forward the building's requirements to your moving company as soon as you have them. We issue the COI directly to management and plan the crew size so the move fits inside your elevator window.
Do the same at the old building
If you're leaving an apartment building too, it may have its own elevator booking and COI requirement. Two buildings with two windows need a plan that works for both.
On the day
Have your key fob or garage access ready, know the building's loading route, and let the front desk know when the crew arrives. A smooth check-in saves time on the clock.
